Traveling to Greece with your Dog
Pet Entry Requirements
If you are planning to travel to Greece with your dog, it is important to make sure that all the required vaccinations, identification and travel documents are in order before you travel.
The rules governing the non-commercial movement of dogs, cats and ferrets are set out in Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2026/131. The requirements depend on whether your dog is travelling to Greece from another EU Member State or from a country outside the EU.
Please ensure that your dog meets all the applicable requirements before departure. Failure to comply with the regulations may result in delays or your pet being refused entry.

If your dog is travelling to Greece the requirements are relatively straightforward.
1. Microchip Identification
Your dog must be identified by a compliant microchip.
The microchip must be implanted before, or on the same day as, the rabies vaccination. A rabies vaccination given before the dog's identification is not considered valid for travel purposes.
2. EU Pet Passport
Your dog must travel with a valid EU Pet Passport issued by an authorised veterinarian.
The passport must contain the dog's microchip identification number and details of its valid rabies vaccination.
3. Rabies Vaccination
Your dog must have a valid rabies vaccination.
For a primary (first) rabies vaccination, at least 21 days must have passed after completion of the vaccination protocol before the vaccination becomes valid for travel.
The dog must also have been at least 12 weeks old when the rabies vaccination was administered.
If a subsequent rabies vaccination is administered while the previous vaccination is still valid, the 21-day waiting period does not normally need to be repeated.
